Get to Wessington Springs, South Dakota!
A great place to spend a day, a weekend, or the rest of your life! This is our motto because our rural community has so much to offer people seeking a safe, peaceful, yet progressive community to call home!
Locally owned Café, Steakhouse & Lounge, Bar & Grill and several convenience stores afford many choices in food and drink. A 9-hole golf course and country club, plus a trap club with skeet shooting and duck tower provide physical challenges to interest the outdoor enthusiast.
Wessington Springs recently completed renovation and upgrades to several nature & historic trails in our sprawling 48-acre city park, with RV and tent camping available. Those who enjoy lodging with the comforts of home may arrange a stay in our hotel, or any one of our hunting lodges, some of which are open year round! During the summer you may cheer for our amateur baseball team, attend our SDRA Rodeo event, play disc golf, or just enjoy a relaxing day at the city pool. During the cooler months, there are many athletic events hosted through our nationally accredited K-12 school system — our students, parents and community members are strong fans of basketball, wrestling, volleyball, soccer, bowling, and the like.
Wessington Springs preserves its rich history through the Jerauld County Heritage Center. It is host to eight sites on the National Historic Registry including a Carnegie Library (one of the very few still being used for its intended purpose). Wessington Springs also features a restored 1905 Opera House, Shakespeare Garden with Anne Hathaway Cottage (a thatch roof structure that was built following the design of the original structure in Stratford-on-Avon, England), and the historic Jerauld County Courthouse.
Our full business district includes a grocery store, auto sales, Hardware & Variety store, consignment and flower shops, public transportation, pharmacy and superb medical campus with emergency services, long-term care, and wellness center. Agriculture, with targeted service industries, and great hunting round out the fantastic opportunities available for both locals and those interested in relocating to our fine community!

This is one of the nicest small towns anyone could ever want to visit in South Dakota. The people that live there are the salt of the earth. Good solid hard working individuals. Friendly and helpful are two of the many words I could chose to describe these folks. Their land in the area is beautiful and full of wildlife. They are more than willing to share their bounty with nonresidents. They treat you like friends not tourists. You wont see trash along the roads like here in the eastern U.S.. It is a clean wholesome country that the folks have taken care of for centurys. When you go visit them remember to leave the place as you found it CLEAN ; and respect their land and cattle. Lock gates behind you when you enter pastures and always have permission. Respect the locals and they will treat you like an old friend. This is a special place. God bless you folks in the Springs.
Thank you Ken for the accolades! I have lived here 11 years now and find it to have some wonderful attributes. May I ask what brought you to our community?
wondering if you know of any lodging for 4 or so pheasant hunters in area of Miller, Wessington etc.
Farm house, or in town etc.?
thank you,
Hi Steve, since you found our website I would suggest you click on “Lodging” under Playing in Springs. There are a couple Wessington addresses. However, the rest of the lodges also are quite close in proximity so you could call any one of them.
I see your comment from last year looking for pheasant hunting lodging. We have some new lodging available in Wessington Springs this year. Call 605 539 1373 or 605 350 6973 (cell)if you are interested.
My husband and I are looking for a place to move our double wide trailer too. My husband works in Huron, SD. We currently live in Redfield. We are searching our options. We would love to find an old farmstead if at all possible or at the very least, something on the edge of town. Please provide us with required information at above email address. Thank You! Sincerely, Crystal Sodawasser
I’m not sure if anyone will be able to help me but my family and I are looking into moving into the area. My stepdad’s family lives in springs and we would like to move closer to them. we live in washington now which makes for quite a trek when we want to visit them. Our biggest challange with relocating is going to be with my little brother. He is autistic and is a special needs program at school. I don’t know much about what the school district has to offer in a situation like this or what resources to go to to even ask. Any advice would be SO appreciated!!
We have a very progressive school system that offers quality education to our community youth. I would suggest contacting Superintendent Lance Witte at (605) 539-9311 to discuss what resources are available for your brother. We have a very supportive community and would welcome your family. Let me know if there is anything you need as far as community information for your move. Kim Burg, Development Coordinator (605) 539-1929
My husband and I will be vacationing in SD this year. This has been a lifelong desire of mine. We would like to attend a rodeo and I notice there is one scheduled on May 25th in your town. Could anyone advise us regarding lodging for the night? We are seniors 65+. Thank you.
I will email you some lodging information and information about the rodeo. – Kim, WS Area Development Corporation
